I'm sad...

Today was the day I've dreaded for 5 1/2 years, Matthew's kindergarten registration. I simply can't believe my time as a full time stay-at-home-mom is about over. It used to annoy the heck out of me for people to tell me "enjoy it, it will go so fast" and all those other sayings, but IT IS SO TRUE. I hope he adjusts well and transitions better than Alexis did, yikes. He was very excited tonight and Alexis is just as excited to have him in 'her' school.

Mikey's 40

Today is Mike's 40th birthday. We celebrated with his favorite cake-an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. The kids picked it out and designed it. They were so proud!!

This and that...

Here I sit looking out my front door at the beautiful 60 degree day God has given to us and realizing how much I am over winter already! I didn't fully understand how much I rely on nice days, either temperature or sun wise, but let me tell you...I am ready for spring.

Not much has been happening on our home front. I got my staples out this past Saturday (didn't hurt a bit) so I guess I'm all done with my head injury and thank goodness it healed quickly and without any complications. I have joined a Bible Study on Thursday mornings and am really enjoying that. I've met some great women and am learning a lot! Tomorrow I get to be a substitute teacher in Matt's preschool class and I'm looking forward to that. Should be interesting...On Saturday after Alexis' soccer game us and two other couples are heading up to our friends cabin for an overnight stay and to do some sledding. We've been doing this the past couple of years just to break up the winter and it's always a good time, complete with lots of laughs and gaining a few pounds from all the food we take along! We'll see if there is much snow left after our past several warm days but if not, we'll just hole up in the cabin and do nothing!

I'm hoping the next post will have some pictures to go with it as I seem to be lacking in the photography department lately.

ER Visit

The kids decided they HAD to go to Nana and Pop's last night so I cooked Mike and I dinner and we were just going to lay low and hang out. He had just gotten back from a trip to Lancaster so he really wasn't up to driving anywhere and that was fine with me. He's been on the hunt for a new scraper blade for the tractor for when he plows snow. Low and behold when he was in Lancaster (farm country of PA) he found one and brought it home. He decided he would get this one out the same way he got the other one out and that was by hooking a chain to it and lifting it out of his truck and then lowering it down. Simple enough right? I was just to stand there and make sure it didn't swing wildly around as he lowered it. Yep-when he was lowering it the chain must have had a kink in it that straightened out with the weight of it and it came undone and the blade when crashing down. I jumped back worried about my toes and then realized I'd been hit in the head with something hard! (We first thought it was a piece of the chain but now we think it was one of the hydraulic cables on the blade) Then the blood came. (I've never had stitches or a broken bone before so I was a bit concerned to say the least) We went up to his parents to grab some towels and off to the ER we went. It felt like the whole side of my head was split open. They got me to a room and cleaned the area pretty well and discovered it was only 2.5 centimeters. So they had to STAPLE-eek-it up with 3 staples. (Getting the staples in didn't hurt at all either) I have to have the staples in for 8 days. The worst part: I can't get my hair colored (and it is in desperate need) for 2 weeks! The best part: Mike got to see, under those wonderful hospital lights, just how gray I really am and that I am not just spending money to have it colored for fun!

Have a good weekend!!

Fun Weekend

We had a great weekend and now we are all beat! As a matter of fact, it is 8:40pm and Mike has already headed upstairs!

Friday the kids spent the night with Nana and Pop while we went out with a group of friends. What a great time we had laughing and just hanging out. Saturday welcomed us with a fresh coating of snow that continued all morning. Alexis had a soccer game at 11 and then because of the snow we went over to our friend's, the Moyer's, house and had lunch and the kids played for a few hours. That way we didn't have to drive home and then back in for the 3:30 birthday party Alexis attended at the bowling ally. Then it was off to Chuck and Jane's for dinner and then finally bed time. Today has brought us another busy day starting with church and then home for a quick lunch before our PSU activities. While I took the kids to church, Mike ran 12 miles with his running group as they start to ramp up their training for the April marathon. Mike and I then went to the wrestling match for the highly anticipated PSU/Iowa match and we weren't able to pull it off. We certainly didn't look like the #1 team in the nation. It was fun to watch though, as I haven't been to a wrestling match in about 13 years! We were given 4 awesome Lady Lion basketball tickets so Nana and Pop took the kids to watch the game and were thrilled to be in the front row. Alexis will be getting a t-shirt this week autographed by the whole team and she is beyond excited. (It helps to know the man working the game table!!)

I am planning to drive to Altoona on Tuesday for an informational meeting with the PSU Altoona nursing school to make sure I have all my ducks in a row to apply later this fall for next falls program. I hope I do because I am getting very excited about it! I say I'm 'planning' to go because we're in line for a pretty good snow and ice storm on Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess if I miss this one I'll have to plan for the March date and we all know what a good planner I am!

Have a great week!

The New Bed

New Bed and sorts

Alexis got her new bed this week and was so excited about it. Her Aunt Betsy and Uncle John got her a bed canopy for Christmas and she had to wait until the new bed came to be able to put the canopy up. Today was the day. What a princess she is now. She's tucked away in her bed reading a book and looks so cute and cozy. Here's a picture of her new digs:

technical difficulties...hopefully uploaded soon

We're gearing up to watch the Steelers head into the Super Bowl tonight and looking forward to another snowstorm that is supposed to be headed our way later this week. Crossing our fingers its a big one!
